Understanding Price Comparisons
Our price comparison tools help you understand the full cost of your medications. Here is what the numbers mean.
What Prices Are Shown
TransparentMedz displays the cash price (without insurance) for medications. This is the price you would pay out-of-pocket at each pharmacy.
Price Components
A prescription price typically includes:
- Drug cost: The cost of the medication itself
- Dispensing fee: The pharmacy's fee for filling your prescription
- Markup: Any additional markup applied by the pharmacy
Comparing Effectively
When comparing prices, make sure you are looking at the same medication strength, quantity, and form (tablet, capsule, liquid). Use the standardized "per unit" price for the most accurate comparison.
Generic vs Brand
Generic medications contain the same active ingredient as brand-name drugs and must meet Health Canada's standards. They are typically 30-80% less expensive.
Price Freshness
Prices are updated regularly. Look for the "Last updated" timestamp on each price listing to see when data was last verified.
