The complete guide

How TransparentMedz saves you money

7.5 million Canadians have no drug insurance. The rest overpay without knowing it. We built the tool that fixes both problems — in seconds, for free.

The problem we solve

The same pill, same molecule, same manufacturer — wildly different prices depending on which pharmacy you walk into.

$4.49vs$12.91

Dispensing fee

Costco charges $4.49 per prescription. Rexall charges $12.91. Same drug, same quantity — $8.42 difference per fill.

0%vs12%

Markup

Costco sells drugs at cost with zero markup. Shoppers Drug Mart adds up to 12% on top of the ingredient cost.

$6.49vs$17.99

Total price

Metformin 500mg costs $6.49 at the cheapest pharmacy and $17.99 at the most expensive. That's $138/year on ONE drug.

Common questions

Is TransparentMedz really free?

+
Yes. Searching and comparing drug prices is completely free with no signup required. We offer optional Plus ($6.99/mo) and Pro ($14.99/mo) plans for advanced features like unlimited price alerts, AI pharmacist chat, and family profiles.

How do you make money?

+
Three ways: premium consumer subscriptions, SaaS products for pharmacies and employers (PharmaSuite and BenefitsDesk), and our drug pricing API for developers. We never sell user data or show ads.

How accurate are the prices?

+
Prices are sourced from pharmacy website scraping (updated every 3 hours), government databases, and community submissions verified by other users. We flag prices older than 7 days and remove anomalies automatically.

Do I need a Costco membership to use their pharmacy?

+
No. In Canada, you do not need a Costco membership to use their pharmacy. Pharmacy services are exempt from membership requirements by law. Walk in, drop off your prescription, and save.

Can I use this for my whole family?

+
Yes. Our Pro plan ($14.99/mo) includes family profiles for up to 5 members. Track medications, costs, refill dates, and savings for everyone in your household.

How is this different from GoodRx?

+
GoodRx only works in the United States. TransparentMedz is built specifically for Canada — with Canadian pharmacy data, provincial drug coverage information, PIPEDA compliance, and dispensing fee breakdowns that GoodRx doesn't offer.

Is my data safe?

+
Absolutely. We're PIPEDA compliant, use AES-256 encryption, host data on Canadian servers, and never collect patient health information. Your searches and alerts are private.

Stop overpaying for the same medication

Canadians save $200-$500 per year on average. It takes 30 seconds to search. No signup, no credit card, no strings.
